Concept of SDGs
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are part of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by 193 Member States in September 2015 and effective from January 1, 2016.
- They aim to transform our world by promoting sustainable economic, social, and environmental development.
- SDGs are guided by 5 key principles (5Ps):
- Planet – Protect the planet and its natural resources.
- People – End poverty and hunger in all forms and ensure dignity.
- Prosperity – Ensure inclusive economic growth and sustainable development.
- Peace – Foster peaceful, just, and inclusive societies.
- Partnership – Strengthen global partnerships for sustainable development.

Selected SDGs and Their Relevance to Nepal
1. No Poverty (SDG 1)
- Goal: End poverty in all its forms everywhere.
- Nepal context: Focuses on reducing extreme poverty, improving social protection, and ensuring equal access to resources.
- Major Targets: 5
2. Zero Hunger (SDG 2)
- Goal: End hunger, achieve food security, and improve nutrition.
- Nepal context: Promotes agricultural development, nutrition programs, and sustainable food production.

3. Quality Education (SDG 4)
- Goal: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all.
- Nepal context: Focus on universal access to primary and secondary education, gender equality in schools, and lifelong learning opportunities.
